Grass Fire Damages 7 Homes, 3 Cars
A grass fire erupted along the Pasadena Freeway in Highland Park on Sunday afternoon, blackening 10 acres, slightly damaging seven homes and blistering paint on three cars before it was extinguished.
It took 80 Los Angeles city firefighters and two water-dropping helicopters almost an hour to beat back the flames, spokesman Pat Marek said.
The fire erupted on the east side of the Pasadena Freeway at Avenue 60, Marek said. Estimates of damage to the homes and the cars were not immediately available.
During the course of the blaze, firefighters called for reinforcements several times as the flames approached homes bordering Arroyo Seco Park. Two helicopters also joined in.
The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
