OXNARD : 4 Men in Pickup Killed in Fiery Crash

Investigators are probing the cause of a fiery crash that took the lives of four young Oxnard men on U. S. 101 near Santa Barbara.

The men were killed instantly in the early Saturday accident on the way home from a soccer match in San Jose, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ugo Arnoldi said.

Arnoldi said the pickup truck in which the men were riding swerved out of the southbound lanes, hit a tree and burst into flames. The men were burned beyond recognition.

The accident occurred at 6:30 a.m. in the Tajiguas area about 30 miles northwest of Santa Barbara.

The victims were identified as Ricardo Juarez, 22; Jorge Rocha, 18; Artemio Rangel, 20, and Ignacio Baraja, 20. Juarez was the driver, Arnoldi said. All four lived in an apartment building in the 1900 block of H Street, he said.

Investigators said the cause of the accident has not been determined, although the driver may have fallen asleep and failed to turn at a curve in the highway.
