Bob McNulty’s Chance fell slightly off its record pace as the Santa Cruz 70 from Los Angeles Yacht Club approached the halfway point of the 2,216-nautical-mile Transpacific race to Hawaii.
By Wednesday morning, Chance had passed all but two of the smaller boats that started two days earlier--Fred Hibberd Jr.’s SC 50, Solution, and Walter Schneider’s Olson 40, Windsurfer, which were 50 miles ahead.
