San Fernando’s Woods to Play Football at Oregon State

Keith Woods, a strong safety from San Fernando High, will play football at Oregon State next fall.
Woods, 6-foot, 180 pounds, said he will walk on his first season and that he has a commitment from the school for subsequent scholarship support.
David Skeels of Thousand Oaks High signed a letter of intent Tuesday to play baseball next season at Arkansas.
Skeels, a catcher and third baseman, is the third member of his family to earn a baseball scholarship. Andy Skeels played at Arkansas from 1985-87 and earned All-American honors his final season. He now is playing for the New York Yankees’ double-A team in Albany, N.Y. Mark Skeels will be a senior at Stanford in the fall. All three brothers are catchers.
David, who will earn a partial scholarship, was drafted in the 37th round by the Chicago Cubs in the amateur draft last month after a senior season in which he batted .337 and drove in 25 runs.
The Independence Day Classic 5K road race will be held in Newhall at 9 a.m. Thursday.
The race starts at Newhall Park and finishes on the Hart High track.
