World IN BRIEF : PHILIPPINES : Volcano Erupts Anew, Stirs Warning

Mt. Pinatubo erupted again, hurling columns of ash eight miles into the air and prompting a warning from volcanologists that it might produce even bigger eruptions. “This indicates that pressure is building up inside the volcano,” said a spokesman for the Philippine Institute of Volcanology. Twenty-four days of eruptions have killed about 340 people, forced another quarter of a million to flee their homes and deluged two major U.S. military bases with ash and mud.
