Bombing Kills 8 in Barcelona; Basque Separatists Blamed
Reuters
BARCELONA, Spain — At least eight people, including three girls at play, were killed and 45 injured when a suspected car bomb blamed on Basque separatists destroyed a Spanish guard barracks Wednesday, officials said.
The girls, aged 7, 10 and 11, were playing in the courtyard of the barracks in the town of Vic, near Barcelona, when the blast ripped through it.
“The theory at the moment is that it was a car bomb,” said a local government official.
Officials blamed the ETA (Basque Homeland and Freedom) group.
