Thelma Todd was a victim of her association with organized crime. The preamble for that scenario had its setting in Lucky Luciano’s New York and Frank Nitti’s Chicago connections.
The movie industry, with available capital and labor for investment, was sought as highly lucrative for racket exploitation. Later this power play gravitated to gaming tables in Las Vegas because of prohibitive laws in California.
It’s sad to say that “White Hot: The Mysterious Death of Thelma Todd” (NBC, May 5) still leaves some unanswered questions.
