American Legion District 20 to Open With 4 Divisions
The American Legion District 20 baseball season will open today, replete with realigned divisions and a handful of new teams.
The 27 teams are dispersed in four divisions that roughly correspond to the geographic areas of the district, which includes the Antelope, San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys.
The Southern Division has been added to last summer’s three-division alignment. There are six teams in the Eastern and seven in each of the Southern, Northern and Western divisions.
New entries include Granada Hills East, which is affiliated with Kennedy High, Sepulveda (Montclair Prep), Littlerock (Littlerock) and Burbank North (Burbank).
Each team is scheduled to play 23 games in the regular season. District playoffs, an eight-team double-elimination tournament, will begin July 16. The district all-star game is July 7 at Birmingham High.
Woodland Hills West, the defending state champion, will open play Sunday against Woodland Hills East at El Camino Real High at noon.
District 16, which encompasses Ventura County, will begin play June 1. Teams include: Camarillo, Conejo Valley A, Conejo Valley B, Newbury Park, Oxnard, Santa Barbara, Simi Valley, Ventura and Westlake-Royal.
