Kaiser Permanente to Try New Fuel Cells: The Southern California-based medical group said it would become the first private company in the world to use fuel cells that cleanly convert natural gas to electricity. The company said it had signed a 20-year contract with Southern California Gas Co. to install cells at two medical centers in Orange and Riverside counties. The gas company, which developed the cells for commercial use, claims they produce only a 20th of the emissions associated with conventional electric generation.
