Huntington Beach’s Harshburger Wins 50-Miler
FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Kathy Harshburger of Huntington Beach ran 50 miles around Mile Square Park in 7 hours 58 minutes to win the women’s division of the West Coast University 50-Miler Saturday.
Harshburger finished more than six minutes ahead of second-place Eleaina McMahon of Ridgecrest (8:04:15) over the 10 five-mile laps in a race that serves as Southern California district championship for The Athletics Congress.
Vicki Huffman of Pear Blossom was third (8:15:05).
In the men’s race, Lion Caldwell of Keams Canyon, Ariz., won in 6:09:13, Dennis Huffman of Glendale was second (6:23:01) and Don McLean of Saugus was third (6:29:20). Rob McNair of Huntington Beach was the first finisher from Orange County, eighth in 6:56:19.
