Troy 9, Cerritos 2--Brent Coon hit a grand slam to in the fourth inning to break the game open for Troy. Guy Pinelli (9-3) pitched a six-hitter and struck out five for host Troy (16-8). Troy trailed, 2-0, when Cerritos’ Rick Cradle hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning. However, Troy came back to lead, 4-2, heading into the fourth inning, when Brandon Avey walked with one out, Steve Friedrich singled and Ryan Russell got on with an infield hit to load the bases for Coon’s home run. Friedrich had two hits and two runs batted in for Troy.

Gahr 3, La Habra 0--Third-seeded Gahr scored three runs in the first inning off Rusty Volker (3-5).

Canyon 3, Ramona 1--Mike Casagranda (6-4) pitched a four-hitter, struck out five and walked one for visiting Canyon. He also had RBI single in the second inning to give Canyon a 1-0 lead. Ramona tied the score in the fourth. Rory O’Leary doubled to score Kent Miller with two out in the sixth inning for what proved to be the winning run for Canyon (16-9-1). Greg Tippen scored on a double steal for Canyon’s final run in the seventh inning.

Brea-Olinda 12, Damien 5--Tim Carman (8-1) struck out nine and allowed 10 hits in a complete-game victory. He also hit a three-run home run in the second inning for the host Wildcats (15-11). Mike Ryan had three hits, scored three runs and drove in one, and Chris Briones had two hits and three RBIs.

Paramount 4, Dana Hills 3 (eight innings)--Rolando Avila had two home runs for visiting Paramount.

Avila hit both homers off Jon Spaulding, who lost his first game of the year to finish 11-1. Spaulding struck out 11 and gave up eight hits.

Avila’s second home run in the seventh inning tied the game, 3-3. Dana Hills, the first place team from the South Coast League, finished 19-8.

Paramount, the third place team from the San Gabriel League, is now 16-6-1.
