All four of UCLA’s singles entrants lost in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships at Stanford.
Kimberly Po lost to unseeded Caroline Delisle of Oklahoma State, 7-5, 7-5; fourth-seeded Shannan McCarthy of Georgia defeated Stella Sampras, 6-1, 6-3; Carla Abe of California eliminated Iwalani McCalla, 6-7 (9-7), 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, and Kristine Kurth of William & Mary beat Mamie Ceniza, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.
Fifth-seeded Trisha Laux of USC beat Susan Klingenberg of Kentucky, 6-1, 6-1, and third-seeded Nicole Arendt of Florida defeated Janna Kovacevich of Pepperdine, 6-4, 6-1.
