DIGEST : Mission Viejo Hurdler Signs With CSUN
Hilary Mann of Mission Viejo High has signed a letter of intent to attend Cal State Northridge where she will compete for the track and field team.
Mann has personal bests of 14.5 seconds in the 100-meter low hurdles, 45.3 in the 300 lows and 37 feet 7 inches in the triple jump.
She won both hurdle races and placed second in the triple jump in the South Coast League finals last week.
UNLV guard Travis Bice, a former Simi Valley High player who joined the Rebels as a walk-on in 1987, will not return to the team.
Coach Jerry Tarkanian said Wednesday that Bice will graduate this summer and plans to enter either law school or business school.
Bice, a reserve guard, ranked third on the team in three-point field goals last season, behind Anderson Hunt and Greg Anthony.
Christi Tucay, 13, of Burbank finished sixth in the all-around competition and won a bronze medal in the hoop in the National Junior (ages 12-14) championships for rhythmic gymnastics in Colorado Springs, Colo., last weekend.
Tucay’s sixth-place finish in the all-around competition enabled her to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Festival in Los Angeles this summer.
The Coup de Hoop national three-on-three basketball tournament has extended its entry deadline to Friday. The event begins May 18.
Information: 1-800-669-COUP.
