CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : STANFORD : $924,517 Refund Sent to Government

Stanford University officials sent the federal government a $924,517 refund check, representing repayment for controversial items such as antiques for the school’s presidential residence and a trustee’s retreat that were partly billed to taxpayers as research-related. The repayment, however, is only a small part of the final cost at Stanford of a national crackdown on billings for the indirect costs of research.
