Man Arrested in Firing of Rifle
A Ventura man was arrested after firing as many as a dozen shots from a hunting rifle in the back yard of his Anacapa Street home Wednesday night, authorities said.
Ventura Police Sgt. Carl Handy said police received a call at 8:30 p.m. from a resident who, after hearing numerous gunshots, looked into his neighbor’s back yard and saw Rodney Kirby with a rifle in hand.
Police arrived at the home at 65 Anacapa St. and convinced Kirby and his wife, Donna, to leave the house. Police found three hunting rifles in the residence and spent shell casings in the back yard, Handy said.
No one was hurt in the incident, which was the second time in two nights that Ventura police had to use SWAT-type tactics to enter and search a home for firearms. An officer-involved shooting Tuesday night on College Drive involved the same type of procedure.
Rodney Kirby was arrested on suspicion of shooting a gun in public.
