Ragu Drops ‘Fresh’ From Label: Ragu Foods Co. of Trumbull, Conn., agreed to stop using the word fresh in its line of “fresh Italian pasta sauces,” according to the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA had asserted that the use of the word fresh was “false and misleading” because the sauce is made with heat-processed tomato paste instead of fresh tomatoes, FDA spokesman Jeffrey Nesbit said. The agreement by Arthur Gonis, Ragu’s president and chief executive, does not admit any wrongdoing, Nesbit said.
