Alfredo Campoli, 84, Italian child prodigy violinist. Raised in London, he began violin lessons at age 6 and at 13 won the London Music Festival’s gold medal for his performance of Mendelssohn’s violin concerto. After making hundreds of recordings, heading his own orchestra, and performing concerts around the world, he retired at 75. On Wednesday in London.
