Intermittent rain showers in Riverside cut short a Golden State Athletic Conference match between Point Loma Nazarene and Cal Baptist with the Crusaders leading, 4-2. PLNC got victories from singles players Kelly Massa and Tiffany Puckett--who both won their matches by 6-3, 6-1 scores--while Cal Baptist forfeited at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles. The match will be resumed April 9 at PLNC.
Top-seeded Ditta Huber and 14th-seeded LeeAnn Rostovsky of La Jolla advanced in the 18-year-old division of the Easter Bowl Junior Tennis Championships at the Doral Resort & Country Club in Miami.
Huber defeated Mashona Washington of Swartz Creek, Mich., 6-1, 6-1, in the third round. Rostovsky defeated Patty Murren of Newtown, Conn., 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, in a second-round match. Brooke Galardi, also of La Jolla, fell to second-seeded Michelle Jackson of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., 6-1, 6-4.
The University of San Diego moved up one place to 14th in the Volvo Tennis/Collegiate Rankings. Tonya Fuller, Toreras’ No. 1 singles player, slipped from 10th to 12th, while No. 2-player Sakolwan “Tuck” Kacharoen jumped from 33rd to 18th, according to the second published ranking this season.

USD’s No. 1 singles player, Jose Luis Noriega, moved up from 13th to 10th place in the Volvo Tennis/Collegiate Rankings.
