California IN BRIEF : SACRAMENTO : Motorcycle Helmet Bill Revived
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
All motorcycle riders would have to don safety helmets under a bill sent to the Assembly floor. The Assembly Ways and Means Committee approved the measure on a vote of 12-5. The Legislature twice before passed nearly identical bills, but both were vetoed by former Gov. George Deukmejian. The bill is one of dozens rejected by Deukmejian that lawmakers are resurrecting this year in hopes of better treatment from Gov. Pete Wilson. At least 21 other states and the District of Columbia have laws requiring motorcycle helmets.
