ORANGE : Infant Struck, Killed by Car on Sidewalk

A 22-month-old boy was killed Monday and his mother was injured when a suspected drunk driver lost control of his car and hit them as he drove onto the sidewalk, authorities said.
The driver, identified as Jose Ray Sanchez Chavez, 62, of Orange was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter, police said.
The mother and her child, whose names were not released, were taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana after the 6:30 p.m. crash, which occurred in the 100 block of South Hewes Street, police said.
The boy died a short time later, police said, and the mother was reported in good condition.
