Princeton Puts the Clamps on Loyola, 76-48

PRINCETON, N.J. —  Princeton held Loyola Marymount to its lowest point total in five years Sunday, beating the Lions, 76-48, for its 16th consecutive victory.

Loyola (16-15) entered the game as the nation’s leading scoring team, averaging 105.4 points, while Princeton (24-2) came in as the top defensive team, giving up 48.9 points.

Princeton, ranked 19th, took control in the first half and opened a 23-11 lead. Loyola pulled to 28-18, but the Tigers scored the final eight points of the half.

Princeton opened the second half with a 15-8 run to take a 51-26 lead with 11:57 remaining, and the Lions got no closer than 19.

Loyola’s Terrell Lowery, the nation’s fifth-leading scorer with a 28.9 average, was held to 16 points. Kit Mueller scored 21 points to lead Princeton.
