Sports fans and educators believe college presidents should be given tighter control of intercollegiate sports, but coaches are against it, according to pollster Lou Harris.
In a report to the Knight Commission, which is studying possible reforms in college athletics, Harris said most groups it surveyed rated the NCAA negatively on controling excesses.
The Knight Commission will make its report on March 19.
