Italy to Donate Millions for War Costs, Official Says

ROME — Italy hopes to bolster ties with the United States by donating up to $435 million for postwar expenses, Foreign Minister Gianni De Michelis said Saturday.
He told a Rome newspaper that he would announce the new contribution to Secretary of State James A. Baker III when they meet in Washington on Monday.
