Wet Grounds Force Postponement of Soccer Title Games

Earlier this week, George Logan, boys’ soccer coach at Valhalla High, was awaiting tonight’s kick-off for the championship game between his team and Sweetwater. Or, as he termed it, the “splash-off.”
There won’t be a splash-off, however. The 16 boys and girls teams that were to play for championships in divisions I through IV Friday night and tonight will have to wait until Wednesday and Thursday.
The recent storms forced postponement of the games.
One end of the field at USD was said to be under 10 inches of water. In addition, the goal mouths at each site--USD, Southwestern College and Torrey Pines High--were made into deep puddles during the rain.
Thus the 16 teams, which have already been on a week-long layoff since the semifinals, will be idle for another half-week.
Games originally scheduled for Friday will be played Wednesday and games originally scheduled for tonight will be Thursday.
On Wednesday, these games will be played: Boys’ Division I, San Diego-Poway, 7 p.m. at USD; boys’ Division III, St. Augustine-La Jolla, 7 p.m. at Southwestern College; girls’ Division I, San Dieguito-Poway, 5 p.m. at USD; and girls’ Division III, USDHS-Madison, 5 p.m. at Southwestern College.
Thursday’s games: Boys’ Division II, Sweetwater-Valhalla, 7 p.m. at USD; boys’ Division IV, Christian-Bishop’s, 7 p.m. at Torrey Pines; girls’ Division II, Torrey Pines-Valhalla, 5 p.m. at USD; and girls’ Division IV, Bishop’s-Christian, 7 p.m. at Torrey Pines.
