RUWEISHED, Jordan — Jordanian drivers said Friday that allied planes shot up seven civilian trucks that were returning empty to Jordan after delivering medicine and other relief supplies to the Iraqi capital.
One of the drivers, Nemer Subhy, 30, said the trucks were damaged by aircraft cannon fire and that one overturned in the attack around 5 a.m. Thursday on the Baghdad-Amman highway about 45 miles west of the Iraqi desert town of Ar Rutbah.
Subhy said he had not seen anyone injured.
“They attacked possibly to scare people. Some of us were very afraid,” he told Reuters news agency.
