A new peace organization, A Ton of Letters for Peace, will sponsor a panel discussion Sunday on the Persian Gulf War. The Ventura County Coalition for Peace is co-sponsor of the event.
“Resolving Our Relationship with War” is the title of the discussion, scheduled for 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Center Church, 2646 Palma Drive, Ventura. A $5 donation is requested.
Among those scheduled to speak are Mervyn Cooper, a Ventura clinical social worker who will speak on how civilians can handle the stress of war, and Steve Vogeler of Ventura, a pacifist who will discuss resolving issues in a nonviolent manner.
Los Angeles psychotherapist Ilham Saraf will present her views on being an Iraqi-American, and Joe Coffman, a Ventura Navy veteran who fought in both World War II and the Korean conflict, will discuss his views on the crisis as a former member of the armed services.
Marla Buckert, spokeswoman for A Ton of Letters for Peace, said the new organization hopes to gather 80,000 letters to deliver to President Bush in support of a peaceful resolution to the conflict in the Gulf.
