WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Point Loma Nazarene defeated Biola, 83-59, in a nonconference home game. PLNC, the Golden State Athletic Conference champions, are the No. 1-ranked team in NAIA District 3.
PLNC was led by center Shannon Abrams, who scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. Christy Stevens added 16 for the Crusaders, who improved to 21-7.
Biola (10-18) was led by Donna Pollema, who scored 21.
MEN’S TENNIS
Point Loma Nazarene almost swept Cal Baptist, winning a GSAC match, 8-1 in Riverside. Nattias Rendefors dropped his No. 1 singles match to Ghana Davis Cup member Frank Ofori, 6-3, 6-4. Ofori is ranked in the top 15 in the NAIA.
Andrew Patton and Alvaro Macholi, PLNC’s No. 5 and 6, dropped only one game apiece in their singles victories and teamed to win at No. 3 doubles, 6-0, 6-1. The Crusaders improved to 2-2 overall, 2-0 in the GSAC.
University of Hawaii defeated UC San Diego, 5-2, in a nonconference match at UCSD (0-3). UCSD’s Chad Morse defeated Mark Willman, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Point Loma Nazarene (5-3) defeated Cal State San Bernardino, 7-2, in a nonconference match. At No. 1 singles, Point Loma’s Monica Clancy defeated Katie Hibbard, 6-0, 6-1. Point Loma’s Sue Woodling and Kelly Massa defeated Hibbard and Karen Brummitt, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.
Cal State San Bernardino fell to 4-4.
