Grimes Named Assistant Coach at Chaminade

Fred Grimes, head coach of North Hollywood High’s football team for the past five seasons, has been named an assistant football coach at Chaminade, Eagles Coach Rich Lawson said Thursday.
Grimes, who guided North Hollywood to a 5-4 record last season, will be in charge of quarterbacks and inside linebackers at the West Hills school.
The move is a reunion of sorts--Grimes and Lawson coached at Pierce College from 1983-85.
“I always said to him, ‘Hey, Freddie, come on over,’ ” Lawson said. “He brings a wealth of knowledge, and to get a coach of his caliber . . . I’m just really excited.”
Grimes said he welcomes the change and will start coaching at Chaminade in the fall. Grimes said he also has applied to West Valley City Section schools for a teaching job.
“If (they) come through with a position as a football coach and teacher, then that’s where I want to be,” Grimes said. “But if not, I’ll coach with Rich. I’m very excited about it.”
