Yankees Invite Howe to Spring Training

Steve Howe, suspended six times for alcohol and drug abuse, was invited to spring training Thursday by the New York Yankees.
Howe, who turns 33 in March, last pitched in the major leagues for the Texas Rangers in 1987. He was released by the Rangers on Jan. 18, 1988 for violating his after-care program by using alcohol.
Howe was National League rookie of the year in 1980 when he recorded 17 saves for the Dodgers.
