WORLD IN BRIEF : SOUTH AFRICA : 7 ANC Guerrillas Let Out of Prison

South Africa released seven guerrilla members of Nelson Mandela’s African National Congress under an agreement aimed at reform of apartheid. Hundreds of ANC members mobbed a wharf in Cape Town to greet the seven as they returned from the Robben Island penal colony, and the former prisoners immediately condemned the white government for not speeding up the release of political prisoners. The ANC accuses the government of dragging its feet in implementing an agreement on freeing about 3,000 political detainees and has given the government an April deadline for their release.
