Prayer Issue in Schools

I read that after Romanians threw off their oppressive regime, Christmas carols were played continuously on the radio--the first time since World War II.

Bit by bit, our religious freedom is being whittled away by the American Civil Liberties Union and others in the name of separation of church and state. On the one hand, the President calls for a national day of prayer and our whole nation is praying for its servicemen and women and, on the other hand, the California Supreme Court is asked to bar prayers at public high school graduation ceremonies.

Stanley Mosk suggests that Thomas Jefferson is “whirling in his grave” because of the unconstitutionality of prayers at graduation. I doubt it; his epitaph reads “Here was buried Thomas Jefferson, author of . . . the statute of Virginia for religious freedom. . . .”
