A deputy chasing two suspected car thieves into a Lawndale back yard Wednesday shot and wounded one who pointed a revolver at him, officials said.
The two suspects, Archie Lee Jones, 23, and Daryl Brooks, 21, were driving a Jeep that had been stolen in a Long Beach robbery when the deputy stopped them about 8:30 a.m. on 149th Street and Burin Avenue.
While the deputy called for backup help, the Jeep sped away. The deputy followed it into an alley, where it stopped suddenly and backed up into the patrol car. Both suspects got out and ran, Deputy Gabe Ramirez said. Other deputies sealed off the area while the deputy chased the two men, confronting Jones in a back yard.
When the suspect turned and pointed a gun at him, the deputy fired several rounds, hitting the man in the left leg. Brooks was found hiding nearby.
