Peace Proposals and U.S. Bombing of Civilians
- Share via
On the day American missiles killed hundreds of Iraqi women and children who were asleep in a shelter, White House Press Secretary Marlin Fitzwater stated: “Saddam Hussein does not share our value in the sanctity of life. Indeed, he time and again has shown a willingness to sacrifice civilian lives” (Part A, Feb. 14).
During World War II, we Americans firebombed Dresden and dropped atomic bombs on both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, killing hundreds of thousands of civilians. During Vietnam, we Americans dropped napalm on civilians and carpet-bombed the countryside.
Yes, it is true, Hussein is willing to sacrifice civilians to further his war aims. Unfortunately, so are we.
