Japan’s Yasunori Miyabe won a 500-meter World Cup speed skating race at Albertville, France, being timed in 37.47 seconds over the 1992 Olympic ice track. Uwe-Jens Mey of Germany, the world record-holder and 1988 Olympic champion, finished second in 37.60.
