Durenberger’s Finances Target of U.S. Probe

MINNEAPOLIS — The Justice Department told Sen. Dave Durenberger (R-Minn.) that it is investigating his financial dealings, Durenberger spokesman Richard Evans said Sunday.
The investigation focuses on the same dealings that were the subject of a Senate Ethics Committee probe last year, Evans said.
The committee said Durenberger violated the Federal Election Campaign Act and the Ethics in Government Act when he evaded honorarium limits with a book promotion deal and hid his ownership in a condominium so he could collect travel reimbursement for staying there.
The Senate denounced Durenberger for “reprehensible” conduct.
