OJAI : Council to Oppose New Dump Agency
The Ojai City Council will fight a plan to form a new agency to manage landfills in western Ventura County, officials said Friday.
The plan, proposed by County Supervisor John K. Flynn and two Oxnard councilmen, would allow the county and four cities to operate a new landfill in competition with the Ventura Regional Sanitation District.
The district is seeking to extend the life of Bailard Landfill in Oxnard and find a new site for another publicly operated dump.
The Board of Supervisors has already chosen Weldon Canyon near Ojai for a dump to be operated by Waste Management Inc., a private company. But the Ojai City Council opposes the canyon site, fearing increased smog from dump traffic.
