In an effort to curb soil erosion and foster water conservation, the Los Angeles County Fire Department is offering free tree seedlings to residents of unincorporated county areas throughout the San Gabriel Valley.
Board of Supervisors Chairman Mike Antonovich, in announcing the program, said tree planting helps protect natural resources during a drought.
Several varieties of pine, cedar and oak are available from seven county fire stations in the region: Azusa, 18453 E. Sierra Madre Ave.; Claremont, 4349 N. Padua Ave. and 4370 N. Sumner Ave.; Duarte, 1105 S. Highland Ave.; Glendora, 520 S. Amelia Ave.; Hacienda Heights, 2691 S. Turnbull Canyon Road, and Pasadena, 2764 E. Eaton Canyon Drive.
There is a limit of six seedlings per person, said John Haggenmiller, assistant chief of the department’s forestry division.
