Man Shot in Attempt to Flee From Arrest
An Inglewood man was recuperating Wednesday after a police officer shot him when he and a companion who drew a handgun tried to escape from an officer, police said. Erik Nixon, 19, of Inglewood, was wounded once in the ankle when the officer fired at the unidentified gunman, who escaped, said Inglewood Police Officer Brenda Allen.
At 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, officers went to the 3200 block of Lawrence Street to investigate a report of a man with a gun. When they got there, they saw two cars speeding away, she said. Police followed them, and the men abandoned the cars.
One officer confronted six suspects, and while calling for backup, two of the suspects attempted to run. One pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the officer, who fired once at the gunman, but hit Nixon in the ankle.
