State of Union Address to Stress War
Associated Press
WASHINGTON — President Bush will use his State of the Union message at 6 p.m. PST today to give a “status report” on the progress of the Persian Gulf War, Press Secretary Marlin Fitzwater said Monday.
Although officials earlier had suggested that the speech would deal about equally with the war and domestic matters, Fitzwater said a discussion of the conflict would take up “more than half.”
The 25-minute address is scheduled to be broadcast live by CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and C-Span, as well as by some independent stations.
