THE SIDELINES : Reds, Myers Sign 1-Year Pact

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds and relief pitcher Randy Myers have agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth a reported $2 million.
The left-hander was 4-6 in the regular season last year with a 2.08 earned run average and a career-high 31 saves, second in the National League to New York Mets left-hander John Franco. The Reds received Myers before the 1990 season in a trade that sent Franco from Cincinnati to the Mets.
David Fishof, Myers’ agent, said the Reds expressed interest in signing Myers to a multiyear contract. “But I didn’t want that for Randy right now,” Fishof said.
Myers has more than four years of major-league service and he will gain free-agency rights after the 1992 season.
“Next year we’ll be in a better position to negotiate a multiyear deal,” Fishof said.
In other signings, pitchers Mitch Williams and Mike Bielecki agreed to one-year contracts, the Chicago Cubs said. Terms were not released.
