Texas Instruments Lays Off 725: The Dallas-based electronics firm said the action was triggered by persistent weakness in the defense industry. The job cuts range from production workers to managers, with 540 layoffs in the defense systems group, 125 in information technology and 60 in semiconductors. The defense group employs about 22,000.
