Fire Ignited by Downed Power Pole Burns 5 Acres
A brush fire ignited by a downed power pole in Malibu charred about five acres Wednesday and took firefighters about an hour to extinguish, authorities said. No homes were threatened during the blaze, which was reported at about 9:30 a.m. at Malibu Canyon Road, Los Angeles County Fire Department spokeswoman Nancy Alvarez said.
Malibu Canyon Road at Pacific Coast Highway and Mulholland Drive was closed while firefighters battled the blaze, Alvarez said.
The flames were fanned by winds gusting to 30 m.p.h., but no homes were threatened, she said. Alvarez said the fire began after a car crashed into a power pole, and the downed power lines ignited the brush.
