Compton : New Ordinance Will Call for 10% Cut in Water Use

Regina Murphy, general manager of the Compton Municipal Water Department, said she is preparing an ordinance for the City Council that would mandate a 10% reduction in water use throughout the city. The ordinance is expected to be ready for council approval this month.
“It’s just a real serious situation,” said Murphy, who is on the board of directors of the Metropolitan Water District, which last week ordered local water agencies to reduce consumption.
The City Council asked Compton residents in October to begin voluntarily cutting back on water use by 10%. In November, usage started downward and in December, Murphy said, the 10% goal was reached.
