‘Golden Year’ Begins to Lure Tourists to China

BEIJING — China has proclaimed 1992 a “golden year of travel” to try to win back tourists who went elsewhere after the bloody suppression of pro-democracy protests in Beijing in 1989.
“Beijing will offer tourists a new image in the golden year,” Bo Xicheng, director of the Beijing Tourism Administration, told a news conference Tuesday.
