Doing HARM: Loral Aeronutronic, the Newport Beach-based missile subsidiary of Loral Corp. of New York, said Monday that it has successfully tested its first high-speed anti-radiation missile (HARM) at the Naval Weapons Center in China Lake.

The air-to-ground missile, which is designed to seek and destroy enemy radar and antiaircraft installations, was fired from a U.S. Navy F/A-18 aircraft against a simulated enemy target at the test range on Dec. 20.

Loral Aeronutronic is the former missile division of Ford Aerospace Corp. that Loral acquired in October. Loral Aeronutronic is developing a new generation of HARM missiles for the U.S. Navy and Air Force.
