IMAGE REPAIR: Remember all those savings-and-loans we used to have? There were 41 of them here in 1985, a fifth of all in the state, but failures have left only 25. . . . If it seems there are even fewer, you’re right. Five more have “disappeared” by shedding the words savings and loan and calling themselves banks. You can tell by the initials after their names. If they include SB or SLA, they’re savings institutions.
