Nation IN BRIEF : TEXAS : Ranch of ‘Dallas’ Fame Is Foreclosed
- Share via
Southfork Ranch, the 41-acre home of the J. R. Ewing clan in the TV serial “Dallas,” was foreclosed for $3.15 million by Glenfed Financial Corp. of California, the only bidder. The uninhabited ranch, one of Texas’ top 10 tourist attractions in 1989, was bought for $7 million in 1984 by Terry V. Trippet in partnership with the now-defunct Commodore Savings. The partnership defaulted on an $8.2-million debt to Glenfed and entered bankruptcy in early 1990. An attorney for the former owners would not say if they planned to repurchase the property or who would manage the tourist operation. “Dallas” scenes are no longer filmed at Southfork.
