Holtz Not Ready to Rule Out Irish
Associated Press
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Notre Dame Coach Lou Holtz isn’t conceding the national championship for his twice-beaten team, especially since Miami remains in the race.
“I don’t know how Miami could be in the national championship (race) when our record’s the same as them and we beat them head-to-head and we’re 5-1 against Top 25 teams,” Holtz said. “Somebody please explain it to me now.”
Holtz was assuming a Miami victory Saturday over San Diego State.
Miami is 2-2 against ranked opponents. Notre Dame lost to No. 10 Penn State and was upset by unranked Stanford, 36-31.
