SOUTHERN SECTION TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS : Phebus, Mall and Doubles Team From Dana Hills Gain Semifinals
HUNTINGTON BEACH — Keri Phebus of Corona del Mar High School and Anne Mall of Dana Hills cruised through the first round and the quarterfinals of the Southern Section girls’ individual tennis championships Thursday at the Lindborg Racquet Club and will meet in a semifinal match at 9 a.m. today.
In doubles, Heather Bolton and Anna Zaricki of Dana Hills moved into the semifinals against Jennifer Cohen and Allyson Reeves of Palos Verdes.
Bolton and Zaricki defeated Andrea Ballard and Kristin Keller of Miraleste, 7-6, 6-3, in the first round and Lindsey Wasserman and Kerry Gallant of L.A. Westlake, 6-3, 6-0, in the quarterfinals.
Phebus, the two-time defending champion, defeated Christine Walter of Cajon, 6-0, 6-0, and Stacey Jellen of Calabasas, 6-1, 6-2, to advance. Mall beat Lule Aydin of Agoura, 6-2, 6-2, and Lindsay Davenport of Chadwick, 6-3, 6-0.
Phebus and Mall met in last year’s final, with Phebus winning, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
