HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS : Leuzinger Tops Crespi, 20-16
Leuzinger High of Lawndale rallied to score 14 unanswered points in the second half for a 20-16 victory against Encino Crespi in a Southern Section Division III playoff game at Pierce College Saturday night.
Crespi (8-3), which had outscored its opponents, 93-22, in the second half before being shut out by the Olympians, led 10-0 in the first quarter and 16-7 at halftime.
But Leuzinger’s secondary and its big-play offense overpowered the Celts in the second half.
Leuzinger (8-3), the co-champion of the Bay League, will face Anaheim Esperanza in the quarterfinals Friday.
El Toro 40, Buena 12--Quarterback Rob Johnson completed 16 of 19 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns to lead El Toro to a Southern Section Division II playoff victory at Buena. Johnson threw for two touchdowns early in the game and left with 11 minutes remaining. El Toro (10-1) will play Lynwood (6-5) in the quarterfinals Friday. Buena finished the season 5-6.
